How to get the game running, what to do first, and how to keep your account yours.

Start here

The step that stops most new players.

The client is version 614 and it ships its own DirectX package. If you skip it, the game closes without a message and looks broken when it is not.

  1. Download from this site only

    The download page is the only place the client is offered. A file sent to you in a private message can contain anything.

  2. Extract outside Program Files

    Windows guards that folder, and the launcher needs to write its own updates next to the game.

  3. Run element\directx\DXSETUP.exe once

    It sits inside the extracted client. Run it before the first launch, even on Windows 10 or 11 — the runtime the game asks for is not installed by default.

  4. Start the launcher and let it finish

    It updates itself first, then checks the files before starting the game. Sign in with the name and password you made on this site.

Staff never need your password, your session cookie, a recovery link or a code from your mailbox. Anyone who asks for one of those is not staff, whatever name they are using.

  • Password resets come from our own mail

    We run our own mail, so a password reset always comes from jdmortal.net and nowhere else.

  • The website cannot reach your characters

    They are kept apart on purpose, so a problem on the website cannot become a problem for your characters.

  • Backups are taken nightly, and tested

    An untested backup is a guess. Ours are restore-tested on European dedicated hardware in France.
